The 2009 question:

How can IT enable the exchange of medical records & information among patients and healthcare providers in Canada?

Consider:

  • What benefits can be achieved? For patients. For care providers. For the government/tax payers. For private businesses.
  • Where should we focus first? Aging population. Chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, or diabetes.
  • Which types of data are most valuable to include first?
  • How can Web 2.0 help deliver a complete electronic patient record?
  • Beyond government funding, how can/should a complete nationally available patient record be funded?
